SACRAMENTO – The California Transportation Commission (Commission) will adjourn its August 17-18, 2016 meeting in memory of former Commissioner Marian Bergeson who passed away on July 6, 2016.

"We are deeply saddened by the death of our friend and colleague Commissioner Bergeson. Marian Bergeson was respected by all and is remembered for her integrity, dedication, passion, and hard work. She was a great teacher and mentor of what it truly means to serve the public. Most importantly, she inspired each one of us to be all that we can be. While we mourn the loss of one of California’s most respected and dignified leaders, we know that her legacy will live on through the work she did."

Bob Alvarado, Chair, California Transportation Commission

Ms. Bergeson was the first woman to serve in both the California Assembly and Senate and continued to serve the State of California in various capacities such as the California Secretary of Education and Supervisor with the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Ms. Bergeson was appointed to the Commission by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for a four-year term in 2004. She was reappointed for a second term in 2008 and served as Commission Chair in 2006.
