Vehicle Weight Safety Study (Assembly Bill 251)

California Government Code Section 14527.3 requires the CTC to convene a task force to study the relationship between vehicle weight and injuries to vulnerable road users (such as pedestrians and cyclists) and degradation to roads, and to study the costs and benefits of imposing a passenger vehicle weight fee that considers vehicle weight (Assembly Bill 251, Ward, Chapter 320, Statutes of 2023).
